The Later Years

People with a disability can experience ageing earlier than people without a disability, due to the effects of long term mobility and health issues. There are an increasing number of families who are ageing together, i.e. where elderly parents are caring for their adult children with a disability who are also ageing. These families can be relatively isolated from service systems, having often managed their adult children’s care at home all their lives. As the family ages, their need for assistance increases, but the family can find it difficult to access relevant service systems after a lifetime of managing independently.

The Path – The Later Years is a practical tool providing a comprehensive list of available services to assist in accessing relevant service systems.
